[edit] Structure

The database is organized into three units: Core, LowRes, and Properties. Currently only Core is available online. A detailed description may be found here.

  • Core is a collection of all known protein structural domain interfaces extracted from the Protein Data Bank and PQS structure databases using SCOP and CATH domain definitions.
  • LowRes is a set of physical protein -- protein interactions imported from BIND and DIP.
  • Properties is a collection of structural and functional protein properties imported from a variety of sources including MODBASE, SwissProt, GO, OMIM, and InterPro. This facilitates the projection of functional data onto the interaction data (stored in Core and LowRes), aiding in the visualization and interpretation of the latter.

[edit] Predictions

The interactions in Core and LowRes serve as templates for predictive algorithms which identify putative protein interaction partners. MODBASE incorporates these predictions by hyperlinking protein models which are proposed to interact.
