[edit] Database Description

The PEC database (Profiling of Escherichia coli chromosome) (PEC) is an extensive resource that compiles information about the E. coli genome with a focus on functional information about genetic components.

The database holds basic information about the gene, whether it is classified as essential (including references), strain location information relevant to the Stock center of the Natl. Inst. Genet, Japan. It also holds similarity search information (BLAST, PSI-BLAST, FASTA etc.), structural features, microbial homology information and information regarding gene deletions.

There are graphical chromosome views (circular and linearised) and provides a BLAST interface to the data. The resource is available in both Japanese and English.

The current release is version 4 which corresponds to the U00096.2 E. coli genome sequence.
