[edit] Database Description
Between 50,000 and 60,000 mutations in various genes associated with a wide variety of diseases have been reported. Reporting, storing and analyzing these data will be an important challenge in the future, as these databases will provide invaluable information for both clinical medicine and basic science. Locus-specific databases have been developed to exploit this huge volume of data. The p53 mutation database is a paradigm, as it constitutes the largest collection of mutations (28,000) reported in 150 cancer types. This database is an invaluable tool for molecular epidemiology and structural studies of the p53 protein.
