[edit] 2007 already?

  • Time to get cracking on the new NAR release!
  • Additionally, we can think about importing the BMC Genomics / BMC Bioinformatics 'Database articles'. These are released under an open licence, allowing us to include them here (if only we can find them in a concice listing).
  • After update, lets email every database contributor and ask them to sign off on the content here.
  • It seems pertinant to mark all the 'old' databases as such (using the Template:Warning).

[edit] Here is a newer (but non-overlapping) list of suggested things;

  • Make a user-friendly version of this list so that people can see what they can do.
  • Link this todo list into the list of thing people can do to help.
  • Tidy up the front page!!
    • Add the nice 'index' box from FT.
  • Put the Template: Page data template into the search page?
  • Fix the design problem caused by auto 'upping' of the first character of database names... (i.e. fix the transclusion template).

  • Set up the info - at -biodatabase.org email address.

  • DONE Install the 'createBox' extension!
  • DONE: Re install the 'DPL' extension (it seems a bit broken).
  • DONE: Include (suck in) the NAR 'web-servers' database...
  • DONE: Add links to the category system on the Main Page.
  • DONEish: Add information about how to categorize pages into the documentation.
  • DONE: Add 'categorize databases' into the list of things that people can do to help.

[edit] Here is a list of things that need doing (things TODO);

  • Install the "interwiki links" helper extension.
  • Make the 'category indexer' to jump to a specific letter of the aphabet within a big category.
  • Reorganize the categories slightly.
  • Finalize the new main page.
  • Automatically cross link databases!
  • Check the status of the latest NAR database issue.
    • Update everything.
  • Tidy up the 'this is a template holding the data for %page% template.
  • Make each discussion page a threaded discussion forum http://wikixp.org/lqt/index.php/Main_Page
  • After we have the parser functions extension, fix the transclusion templates to use 'PAGENAME' if no 'db' parameter is passed, using 'db' otherwise.
  • Document document document! - The MetaBase documentation is variously bad and disorganised. It needs to be more logical and more complete.
  • Make the NAR upload bot 'user contribution aware', so that we don't accidentally blank user contributions when (for example) changing the format of the NAR pages. Hopefully these updates will be rare.
  • Do a proper literature search for the Related projects of interest page. I am sure there is much more work out there.
  • Fix the search - Transcluded text should give 'hits' to database pages (whose body text often appears in the Template: namespace). Ideally we should remove all the 'namespace' nonsense from the search page. At least we need to include the template namespace in the default set of searched namespaces for new and anonymous users.
  • Investigate a 'HTML -> MediaWiki' converter for the loading pipeline... (because my Perl script is horrible).
  • Add the nice table of databases from the NAR database issue. They gave me the licence so I may as well use it.
  • Implement the NAR style database numbering pages for the 'NEXT' and 'PREV' buttons.
  • After reading the text here I would like to suck the database abstracts into the MetaBase system.
  • Integrate PunBB into the talk page for each database? http://punbb.org/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=95582#p95582
  • Integrate 'Librarian' (from http://bioinformatics.org) to build the ultimate MediaWiki citation site.
  • Add some feedback mechanisms like user ratings to promote some useful discussions about quality in the various database categories.
  • WONT FIX: Protect the pages in the NARDatabase namespace.
  • Work on allowing multiple categorizations of databases more conveniently...

  • STILL NOT DONE!: Fix the bug with 'search for' on the 'no such page' message.
  • DONE: Set up the Wikipedia 'interwiki' links using the wp:Some page on Wikipedia syntax.
  • DONE: Install the CategoryTree Extension; http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CategoryTree
  • DONE: Finish writing the database description, specifically describing the situation with the NAR content.
  • DONE: Add links to the NAR licence information.
  • DONE: Build the NAR transclusion template (specifically adding the required NAR citation and editing procedure notification stuff).
  • DONE:: Build the 'Database page data' templates (links to Google / PubMed and such).
  • DONE:: Build the regular 'database pages' (by transcluding the NARDatabase pages with the 'transclusion templates').
  • DONE: Upload my Perl scripts and pipeline notes for importing the NAR content.
  • DONE: Add the DPL extension.
  • DONE: Make a nice 'most popular' database DPL.
  • DONE: Make the Main Page look nice and shift this junk elsewhere.
  • DONE: Add a description of the database here.
  • DONE: Fix the 'Author Missing' parsing error.
  • DONE: Add the "Journal:" and "PubDate:" namespaces (one namespace per 'object').
  • DONE: Upload the 'Category:NARDatabase' structure.
  • DONE: Fix the <br> Reference separator bug.
  • DONE: Fix the Category listing (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Category#Sort_key)
