Database Description

The Genisys database is an organized collection of information about 35,000 lines of Enhancer and Promoter (EP)-element-inserted Drosophila melanogaster mutants which can over-express or knock-out specific genes when crossed with stage and tissue-specific GAL4 fly lines. Our EP fly collection was built from an original stock of over 100,000 independent fly lines with EP insertions on all chromosomes. If a particular computed gene (CG) had more than one EP-element insertion in different fly lines, a group of lines was chosen so that EP insertions are at least 200 base pairs apart on the same strand. The database can be used to search for EP insertions in a particular gene of interest or for representation of gene families in EP fly collection. EP-element insertion points are graphically depicted on the genome sequence scaffold, along with computer-predicted CGs and ESTs. The Genisys database is accessible at http://genisys.kaist.ac.kr/.
